movies of cartoonsHow do big movie/television companies store their movies/cartoons?

Do they use film, vhs, digital formats? I'm curious because it seems that to use anything that's "lossy" such as digital compression like mpeg is stupid. They surely wouldn't do that. But what about modern computer animated cartoons vs hand drawn cartoons of the 90's?
Obviously it depends when they were made! They hamovies of cartoonsve original films of the older movies, which they use to make a restored copy, like when they release a blu-ray version. Obviously you can't use the inferior DVD version and turn it into HD, so you have to create a brand new digital copy of the original film in HD. I'm sure the studios store those HD digital copies in somovies of cartoonsme database somewhere for potential future releases.

As for more recent films, they are made with HD home video already in mind. They have a digital copy of the movie even before it is released in theaters. All they have to do is burn the Blu-Rays whenever they decide to release them.
